Increasing knowledge through history and heritage

In celebrating the Year of History and Heritage 2017, this project provided spaces within which young people of African descent explored their roots, shared their findings and highlighted the contribution people of African descent have made to Scotland.
The aim was to develop meaningful identities that enabled them to function effectively in a multicultural society.

In celebrating the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, we provided spaces in which young people explored their roots and appreciated the contribution Africans have made to Scotland.


Being brought up surrounded by Scottish culture, young people of African descents understanding and appreciation of the African culture, is often viewed through experiences of their parents. This can leave a tainted appreciation of their cultural values and is not helped by the stereotypes and challenges they experience on a day to day basis. The project aimed to develop meaningful identities that enabled them to function effectively in a multicultural society.
